Some of the strongest local resources that we have here in Webster County are the people! (That is one of the things I love about Kentucky so much. Not being a native of Kentucky, I have a true appreciation for the friendliness of this community!)
Best Tech resources:
Mike Stone (As I like to call him, Tech Guru!): Mike will do just about anything to help you out with technology...did you know he was responsible for writing the grant that got us all those nice new Mac computers in the library?! He will also help you out anyway he can to work around the security walls to be able to have access to what you ned in your classroom
Lori Corbin (new WCHS librarian): Lori is new but is doing great things to try and help teachers use technology in the classroom. She will even come to your room and help with any tech issues if she can. She knows a lot of tech tricks and techniques and will be hosting mini tech lessons for teachers after school.
Best Community Service Outreach
Ms. Donna Bumpus in YES youth services is a great contact to find out local community service opportunities that come up
Ms. Anastasia Hercules (that's me!)
I'm taking the reigns of the Gifted and Talented/Global Leadership at the high school level this year. A big focus of our program (see teaching lesson for details) will be community service, empowering students to BE the change in the world. We will always be seeking out new ways to be of service locally in Dixon, our closest big city and my current home town, Evansville and the world. I have an especially good list of global opportunities that I add to every year after attending NCSS in the fall,.
Finally...ASK...I have discovered if you ask people, be it teachers or students, of any community service opportunities they would like to participate in, the list starts flooding in
Regional Resources:
Evansville (largest close city) Great for field trips, extra credit for family trips community service or weekend learning experiences
LST memorial: Learn how this local community affected the World by being the largest LST manufacturers in the country

Evansville Philharmonic
Venue for many different kinds of music and artistic performances from all over the world

New Harmony
So important was this global utopian community (or at least one of the 2 communities that were established here) that it makes it into high school World History textbooks and helps to establish the 8 hour standard for work days. It has a museum and reconstructed village homes, school and the first library in the state of Indiana
